Frozen river

Image
Poetry of winters. Frozen river. Temperatures were below zero whole January. This scene is stored deep back in my head. It is because my generation has grown up with paintings by Josef Lada and his poetic pictures of Czech winters. They were in many books for children. So, the inspiration must be anchored somewhere back in those children books. Frydek-Mistek, Czech Republic, January 2017 P.

Panoramic views

Image
I've been enjoying making panoramic views a lot. Baška, January 2017 They make possible to frame scenes that wouldn't be manageable to fit even with widest lens. Paskov, January 2017 P.

Winter panorama

Image
A week or two ago I saw some panoramic photos on Facebook and I felt really exited about making my own. It's been more than 10 years since I made last panoramic photo. So, I stopped my car here. Behind the city. Quiet winter landscape. Poetic. Hard to believe, that there are kilometers of shafts under the surface. There is a coal mine just 1 km from here. That mine still operates. Soon, they will close it. Frydek-Mistek district, January 2017 I am really satisfied with the result. P.

Swans

Image
This is one of my very favorite photos lately. There are thoughts that goes with it. First, when I was standing on the little pedestrian bridge those pieces of ice recalled me a meniscus surgery that I had many years ago.  What a strange association. And than I thought about these two swans. This January there were detected swans in Prague that were infected by virus of "bird flu". Hopefully, these two are virus-free. Most of all, I love the contrast and textures. And that little bay were swans are anchored as it was providing them a safe zone. Frydek-Mistek, January 2017 P.

Just another chapter from Czechia

Image
There is a discussion in Czech media regarding newly used name of my country. Besides Czech Republic, it is official to use in English term Czechia. I have mixed feelings about it, but maybe I will get used to it. - This boy wanted to be photographed so much. He run through the whole street to ask me to make a photo photo o him. Ostrava, October 2016 I liked the light contrast here. Photo was framed horizontally. Vertical crop was done in post process. Ostrava - Vitkovice, October 2016 I love when I see clothes outside. Nostalgia probably. Ostrava - Privoz, October 2016 It was a very slow march.... Ostrava  Vitkovice, October 2016 She was running to the little swing. Ostrava, October 2016 No comment... Ostrava - Vitkovice, October 2016 Where is kid? And where are the wheels? Ostrava - Privoz, October 2016 Hi, boy... Ostrava - Privoz, October 2016 On the flea-market. About making a personal cake

Image
This is about micro communities of like-minded people on the Internet. Or elsewhere. I realized this thing about hobby communities. No matter what the subject of the hobby is. Whether they are bakers of cakes blogging about it. Or lets's say....photographers. They will soon find (because internet can do that) like-minded people that listen, enjoy, has same hobby. Cake bakers connect with other cake bakers. And they make virtual friendships. Nothing wrong about that. It could benefit a member of such a micro community. But it can also negatively influence a person, too. I mean, person would see his work (cakes) in the optics of other hobbyists that match into his "circle" of like-minded people. It is better if cake bakers offer theirs cakes to cake eaters instead of other cake bakers. All bakers can make a cake. Each one can create his own original cake, that satisfies his taste. There are millions of tastes and likes. So finally, some bakers will throw rec...

New episodes from Ostrava

Image
These boys were so exited to be photographed. I made more photos of them. This is my favorite. Ostrava, November 2016 I thought she was holding the dog as a baby. It was like a center of their universe. Lovely. Ostrava, November 2016 Hey... Ostrava, November 2016  One of those shots that must be made, because you see it. Ostrava - Svinov, November 2016 They are not lovers. They were buying tickets from the machine. Love that light. Ostrava - Svinov, November 2016 They knew I was hanging around there. They saw me. Anyway, this window is always open and there is always someone looking out and talking to people on the street. Way of life. Ostrava - Privoz, November 2016 Well. This obviously used to be entrance to the pub. Man is homeless. He was checking prices in the pub. Entrance was on the other side of the building. Frydek-Mistek, November 2016 No comment... Ostrava - Privoz, November 2016 P.

November tai chi and other stuff

Image
Friday 13th is a good date for a blog post, isn't it? I loved the contrast light and guy's shadow here. Ostrava - Svinov, November 2016 This was in front of main train station. I was picking up my kids and I had a moment to shoot. I thought it looks like tai chi practice or a flamingo-like posture. I think, he was packing a cigarette. Ostrava, train station, November 2016 Yes, I am photographing. Ostrava, November 2016 In front of the grocery store. Sad and rough. Frydek-Mistek, November 2016 P.

Thoughts on V.H. and other stuff

Image
I will write thoughts about photos that I post here. I saw this poster of former Czech president Vaclav Havel. I first decided to make a photo of it as his name is still resonating in Czech society and in my head. There are a lot of admirers and a lot of haters. In Ostrava, I would rather expect a negative poster or tag (and I found some already) towards him, so this is why it surprised me. And, than this man was coming, so I used him to fill part of the frame. Man's expression fits to this mood and I am glad I have him there. Ostrava, November 2016 This photos was made in community center in Baska. It was something like Halloween party in mask for children, only thing is, that is was called "Scary March of Bogymen" or so. This illuminated rug was hanging from the ceiling. Abstract beauty for me. Baska, November 2016 Still in the community center during masks night. It was very dark all over. There was only one strong light-bulb illuminating place were peop...

Tiding up my mind

Image
So, I was cataloging /organizing/ my photos made last year. The reason is not to tidy up my files in the computer. The reason is to tidy up my mind. Clean and see what shows up, potentially. When you are tiding up what happens first is that dust comes all over. In my case, instead of dust, I had millions of thoughts going on in my head. Now, it is calming down and I can write them down. So I was thinking why I took every  particular photo and than I tried to assign the group of other similar photos. And I damasked something about my photos, that I wasn't aware of. At the end, I went through every photo I published online in 2016. I had sorted out my photos into 11 groups: lonely person /145/ children /103/ poverty, social problems, periphery /55/ no people /47/ shadow /42/ tunnel/underpass /37/ silhouette /35/ dogs /26/ blur /17/ reflections /11/ flare /11/ Numbers in the brackets are indicating number of the photos in particular group. So, I found out....
